Holiday 2003 Horror Film Festival

We mostly missed having a Holiday Horror Film Festival in 2002. I think Rish and I only managed like three movies during that time and it just didn't feel festival enough to write up. Fortunately, we managed to get a little more time and a few more movies together. Not that it was anything like the old days. Alas.

On a side note, I should probably mention that the list of movies here and in reviews of past festivals is never completely representative of all the movies that Rish and I watch together. For instance this year we took in both Return of the King and Paycheck in the theatres together as well as watching at least one more non-horror flick in my living room (which one it was escapes me now). Just didn't want you thinking that we were slacking.

Night one was purely thanks to Rish. We had been planning to get together, but had no specific plans. He showed up with a copy of Long Time Dead and we were able to get the festival started.

Long Time Dead (2001) - There's been a rash of good horror coming out of the UK so this was a natural pick for us to try out. Of course, I think Rish thought it had Steven Seagal in it and had no idea that it was British. It entertained nonetheless.

I guess it wasn't that great a start since we didn't get together again to rent some horror movies until two days later. When we did, we had a hard time finding what we wanted and ended up with four flicks, only one of which had been on our original list to look for. I was awfully tired, though, and we only got one movie watched that night.

Jeepers Creepers 2 (2003) - Both of us had seen Jeepers Creepers and while I liked it a lot more than Rish, renting this one was his idea. It also happened that this was the only movie we had wanted to rent when we walked into the rental emporium that we managed to find. Curse the selection in small town video stores.

Boxing was the day we saw the most movies and unfortunately the last day we watched a horror flick together. We had the dregs of our rental stack ahead of us, but plow ahead we did.

Campfire Stories (2001) - Our first selection was an anthology piece. Rish loves them. I generally don't care for them because I often find them inferior. I watched it thinking that at least we had a regular movie that ought to be better coming after it.

13th Child: Legend of the Jersey Devil (2001) - It wasn't better though. It was much worse. When I finally staggered to bed that night sleep was very, very welcome. And blessedly, I didn't dream of having to watch 13th Child again.

Time was running out for us and after getting together, grossly misjudging the demand for tickets to Return of the King and finally getting into a screening, we ended up parting ways. Rish was flying out the next day so we only had one last night, but we ended up each seeing a horror movie instead of seeing one together.

Creepozoids (1987) - I ended up huddled in my living room watching the last of our stack of horror rentals. It was a "Cult Classic," but I think I'd much rather have been with Rish in the theatre. Still, it was awfully snowy and at least I didn't have to go outside.

Scary Movie 3 (2003) - Rish ended up in the cheap theatre watching the third entry in a series that neither of us had liked that much. Not the best ending to our festival, but at least we managed to have one this year.

Only 6 movies this time spread over 4 nights and two of them we saw separately. Disappointing, but it could have been worse. It could have been like 2002.
