Thanksgiving Horror Marathon 2000

November–synonymous with the onset of winter, election day, sweeps weeks, and giving thanks. I didn't grow up in one of those households where the family sat around the dinner table and everyone was forced to name off all the things they were thankful for each year. And it's probably a good thing, because this year, I would've numbered the ability to download free music off the internet and horror movies among my highest grateful pleasures.

Now, what kind of sick mind would be thankful he lives in a world where seeing people decapitated, mutilated, and eviscerated by unkillable freakazoids* is considered entertainment? The sort of sicko, I suppose, who would dedicate a website to it, and actually count each time a blade severs a head or an innocent trips and meets their demise. Hey, horror movies are fun. They're mindless. And I think they're cool. I've been lucky to meet a few folks out there who think so too. People like you, I suppose (unless you're reading this solely to prepare your upcoming lawsuit, to which I say, get off the internet and do something productive, Mom).

When I told tyranist I was going to come down from my federal witness protection program safehouse to visit for the holiday, he asked me, "How many horror films do you suppose we'll see together?" I told him, "Probably four." Well, we did end up watching four . . . and then we watched eight more. I'll name them and both myself and tyranist will include one word of description.

title Rish tyranist
The Cell (2000) bizarre intriguing
Sorority House Massacre 2: Nighty Nightmare (1990) fun hehe
Sorority Girls and the Creature from Hell (1990) inept inane
Don't Look Now (1973) confusing bewildering
Hard to Die (1990) entertaining jiggly
Tales from the Crypt (1972) cool miscellaneous
Unmasked Part 25 (1988) clever funny
Scream (1981) flushable silent
Mary Reilly (1996) pretentious atmospheric
Witchcraft VII: Judgment Hour (1995) mediocre better
Prom Night (1980) pleasant involving
The Reptile (1966) quaint wistful

Though I didn't enjoy all of the movies, I enjoyed the opportunity to watch them with a friend. And if I haven't said it before, let me stress: good company always makes a movie better. In keeping with the season, thanks for reading.
