Hunter Stake Family History
Fair Report:
"Till We Meet Again"
Saturday, October 28, 2006, from 9-noon, members of the Hunter Stake
joined
together in the Cultural Hall to see wonderful displays prepared by
each of the wards and learn more about family history work. Brad
and
Gail Ottley, Directors of the FHC, did a great job organizing the
affair. Brother Robert Bryan, High Council Adviser,
conducted
and shared a few remarks after the opening song of "God Be With You
Till We Meet Again," and the opening prayer.
Great Idea: The Stake Extraction Director, Sister Trudy
Roos,
had a display on the new FamilySearch
Indexing. She had a laptop
computer with internet access set up, so people could actually try
indexing and see what it is like. If they desired, she also
signed
them up with username and password so they could try indexing at home
and told them she would come to their home to instruct them and get
them started. Try to get participants to commit to doing at least
3
batches, so they will have a chance to get comfortable with indexing
and not give up too quickly.
Another good idea: In a previous newsletter, we
shared the
idea of using Tithing Settlement as a good time to give members their
membership number, confirmation date, and instructions for registering
on familysearch.org. Brother Ottley had taken a screen
shot of the actual registration page and printed copies. This
screen shot could be printed on the back side of the registration
instructions and given to members. They can see, ahead of
time,
exactly what information they will need to give and will notice the
optional part of the registration on the bottom of the form. Many
people don't notice or don't fill out this part of the
registration.
It is necessary to fill out this portion and register as members of the
Church, with membership number and corresponding confirmation date, in
order to see the ordinance dates of ancestors.
