Teachings of Ezra Taft Benson, p.454
President Thomas S. Monson:
"Each
of us
has opportunities for Church assignments. This opportunity of
serving
in the Church enables us to demonstrate a love of God and a love of our
neighbor. There is no finer way to demonstrate love of God than
by
serving Him in the positions to which we may be called.
Occasionally,
the reward for that service will be prompt, and we'll see the light in
the eyes of the person whom we have helped. Other times, however,
the Lord will let us wait a little while and let our reward come
another
way."
"Bloom where you are planted."
Mary Engelbreit
"In the service of the Lord, it is not where you serve but how. In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, one takes the place to which one is duly called, which place one neither seeks nor declines." (CR April 1951)
"Why do we serve? When we understand why, we won't be concerned about where we serve."
BYU Fireside, Sept. 2, 1990
"As calls come to us for church service by the Lord's representatives, it is natural for us to wonder why we have been selected. The Lord has made it plain that every individual has been blessed and endowed with certain gifts and talents. And while there are many gifts, yet 'To some is given one, and to some is given another, that all may be profited thereby.' (D&C 46:12)"
Henry D. Taylor
Conference Report, October 1963, p.71
"I wish that every Latter-day Saint could say and mean it
with all
his heart: 'I'll go where you want me to go. I'll
say what you want me to say. I'll be what you
want me to be.' (Hymns, 1985, no. 270.) If
we could all do that, we would be assured of the maximum of
happiness here
and exaltation in the celestial kingdom of God hereafter.
(Quoted by Thomas S. Monson, Ensign,
May 1986, pp. 37-38 "The Call of Duty",
also May
1996 Ensign, p. 43 "Duty Calls)
Quoting John Taylor
"If you will accept every call that comes to you within the Church, you will grow in a remarkable and marvelous and wonderful way. With responsibility comes growth, and the Lord will magnify you and make you equal to every responsibility which is given you."
Dexter Yager
President Clark said: 'In the service of the Lord, it is not where you serve but how. In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, one takes the place to which one is duly called, which place one neither seeks nor declines.'"
President Thomas S. Monson
- "Duty
Calls" May 1993 Ensign, p. 43
He (the man of Christ) expects a variety of assignments in the Church; some carry the thrills of making a beachhead landing deep in enemy territory, and others involve “minding the store” back home. When he sings, “I’ll go where you want me to go, dear Lord” (Hymns, no. 75), it is not only a promise to go to a Nineveh, but it is also a pledge to stay at his present post.
President Gordon B. Hinckley — From member meeting, Jakarta, Indonesia, Jan. 28, 2000
"God does not begin by asking us about our ability, but only about our availability, and if we then prove our dependability, he will increase our capability!
