2006 Kearns Stake Family History Night Report:

On Sunday, January 29, 2006, the Kearns Stake held an enjoyable evening for the whole family.  There was a full chapel for the program of 2 speakers, 2 songs by the Primary children, and 2 musical numbers by a male quintet.  Members then attended a workshop of their choice:  There were activities for the Primary children, and the YW and YM attended workshops conducted by their Stake Family History Youth Committee.  The adult workshop choices were:  Family Home Evening Ideas; Journals; FH Websites; and 3 classes on "How do I begin", taught in Spanish, English, and Samoan.

After the workshop, milk and cookies were served in the Cultural Hall.

The Kearns Stake has a Spanish Branch and a Samoan Ward.

A member of their Stake Presidency helps keep the Center's computers in good running order and will soon be teaching a FH class at a nearby Senior Citizen Center.

2005 Kearns Stake Family History Night:

Held on a Sunday evening at 6 p.m. until about 8 p.m.   Opening meeting in the chapel with speakers and music by Primary Children.  Their Stake FH Youth Committee sat on the stand.
They divided for workshops.  The Primary children each created a "coat of arms" for their family.  They talked about "putting on the whole armor of God" and being on the Lord's side.

Each child made a coat of arms, starting with a paper with a shield on it, then choosing the values they want in their family lines by coloring and cutting out the symbols.  They had markers, crayons, and scissors, and papers with the symbols.   There were explanations of what character traits were represented by different colors and different symbols used (such as certain plants and animals) on shields.

Below are some websites that might be helpful if you decide to use this idea.   It could be used in FHE, Family Fairs, and Primary.  The teens might enjoy it also.

If some of you develop this idea and create pdf's of the shield and the little symbols to cut out and put on the shield, e-mail them to us as attachments and we can send them out to everyone for them to print off, photocopy, and use.  We want to save each other work and time whenever possible.
