Quotes on Missionary Work - 2

My Missionary Commission

"I am called of God. My authority is above that of the kings of the earth. By revelation I have been selected as a personal representative of the Lord, Jesus Christ. He is my Master and He has chosen me to represent Him. To stand in His Place, to say and do what He himself would say and do if He personally were ministering to the very people to whom He has sent me. My voice is His voice, and my acts are His acts, my words are His words and my doctrine is His doctrine. My commissionis to do what He wants done, to say what He wants said, to be a livingmodern witness in word and deed - of the divinity of His great and marvelous latter-day work.  How GREAT is my CALLING.

Elder Bruce R. McConkie

In 1995, while talking with missionaries from the London Mission, Pres. Hinckley said:

"You have talking with you today one old, worn out, beaten down British missionary.   I know about knocking on doors and fighting off dogs and having doors slammed in your face.  I know it's hard.  But so what?  What a power you are!  What capacity you have to change lives!  Perhaps not many.  But one here and another there listens to you.  And in time, an entire ward of people have accepted the gospel.  You can never foretell the consequences of that which you do when you teach the gospel of Jesus Christ."

(pg.  548,  Pres. Hinckley's biography, Go Foward with Faith)

"It is something to be able to paint a picture, or carve a statue, and so to make a few objects beautiful.  But, it is far more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere and medium through which we look....  To affect the quality of the day, and thereby make all thingsa bit more beautiful---that is the highest of arts."

"WORK...Nothing worthwhile comes easily. Half effort does not produce half results, it produces no results.  Work, continuous work and hard work, is the only way to accomplish results that last."

Hamilton Holt

"A true measure of your worth includes all the benefits others have gained from your success."

Cullen Hightower

Miracles

"I have seen miracles in my time,  my brothers and sisters.  The greatest miracle of all, I believe, is the transformation that comes into the life of a man or a woman who accepts the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and tries to live it in his or her life.  "

President Gordon B. Hinckley,  Sacramento Regional Conference, May 1995

                                 President Benson Quote:

Give me a young man
Who has kept himself morally clean
And has faithfully attended his church meetings.

Give me a young man
Who has magnified his priesthood
And has earned the Duty of God Award and is an Eagle Scout.

Give me a young man
Who is a Seminary graduate
And has a burning testimony of the Book of Mormon.

Give me such a young man,
And I will give you a young man
Who can perform miracles for the Lord
In the mission field  and throughout his life.

                           President Benson 1986

That joy is increased when those efforts help someone understand the teachings of the Savior and that person decides to obey them, is converted, and joins His Church."

President Gordon B. Hinckley, CR October 1997
