his name "Whitenah," but the person filling
out the marriage bond uses "Whiteneck" or
"Whitenaugh" as the spelling. As early as
1812 family members had begun spelling the
name "Whitenah."
Jacob Shartle and John Whiteneck
are held firmly bound unto his Excellency James Barbour Governor of Virginia, in the just and full sum of one hundred fifty dollars, to be paid to the said Governor or his successors, to the which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals, and dated this 29th day of Aug 1812.
The Condition of the above Obligation is such, that whereas a Marriage is suddenly inteded to be solemnized between the above bound Jacob Shartle and Aila Burnes both of this County. NOW, if there should be no lawful cause to obstruct the said Marriage, then the above obligation to be void, else to remain in full force and virtue.

Sealed with our seals, and dated this 6th day of June, 1817.
