Kakwa Community Association in Cairo
The Kakwa Refugee people in Egypt are largely situated in Cairo. Like any other tribe of the South Sudan, the Kakwa people
started to flee their country to Egypt seeking refuge in USA, Canada and Australia in mid 1990s. Already in Cairo,
those Kakwa students who came for studies to Egypt before the 1990s established a small association, mainly limited to
students in the Universities.
Therefore, with the titanic flow of refugee to Cairo, and especially women, and children, the association extended to
involve every Kakwa refugee in Cairo. Kakwa formed a Kakwa community branch called the "Kakwa Community Association
(KACA), which came to its existence in the beginning of 2000. As a result of the continuous temptations of the unhealthy
cultures and imperfect life fashion adopted by some Kakwa refugee, the Kakwa refugee people in Egypt realized that in long
run the beautiful heritage (original culture) of the Kakwa people would be forgotten. The objectives of
the KACA as follows:-
.
-
To identify and address socio cultural problems such as training,
HIV/AIDS awareness, gender issues, marriage and the use of the Kakwa language and some other traditional elements.
-
To promote unity and love among the Kakwa and to reconcile families
difference in Cairo.
-
To enhance and facilitate some relationship and cooperation with all the
Kakwa within and in diaspora through visits, and other means communication.
-
To assist in fund raising to the Association and for other social issues
such as illness, funerals and bride wealth.
-
To encourage the youth to take part in development of South Sudan by
making them more aware Sudanese problems.
