Joseph Dewsnup, Sr., joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1850. He immigrated to America on the ship Siddons in 1855 and settled at Philadephia County, Pennsylvania. He returned to England in 1860 and was there ordained an elder.
Joseph was baptized a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on 16 September 1876 by Thomas Taylor. He was ordained an elder and appointed secretary of the Manchester Branch on 17 September 1876. At this time he was an inspector on the Manchester Police Force. In 1877 he became president of the Manchester Branch. When the Manchester District was formed he was chosen president of it and remained so until 1901, when he retired. According to Joseph's diary they were married in 1857 so the 1859 date could be 1857.
Since family lore has it that Anne dragged Joseph back to England because she would have nothing to do with polygamy, it is unlikely they would have had their first child out of wedlock.
