ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

ASSIST provides architectural design services to nonprofit and community groups for their facility and development plans. We help analyze building needs and costs, provide assistance for development proposals and prepare design plans to rehabilitate community buildings or make homes or community buildings accessible to people with disabilities.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING

ASSIST provides development assistance to neighborhood and community organizations to preserve and develop affordable and accessible housing. ASSIST has acted as a catalyst for community based housing development efforts and has promoted a practical and affordable approach to accessibility modifications and basic access features - "visitability - for new homes.

CITIZEN PARTICIPATION

ASSIST provides opportunities for public participation in local and regional community design and development issues. Working with coalitions, organizations, public agencies and individuals ASSIST promotes social, economic and environmental justice in development decisions.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION

ASSIST provides research, education and advocacy on important community and environmental design issues. ASSIST provides intern opportunities to architecture students to work on community and accessibility design projects. ASSIST sponsors the Carl Inoway Community Design Scholarship for students with financial need who demonstrate an interest in community design issues.
