Advanced String Camp Curriculum and Classes

*Note _ Be sure that you learn the pieces listed under the Code (V8, Q5, C5 etc.) you registered for. Please register for the code you are on now. Students who register for a higher level than they are prepared for, cause problems for themselves and everyone else. Thank you!

5 Hour Core- The Advanced String Camp curriculum includes a master class, chamber group, group performance class, and two hours each day of orchestra. The pieces listed below are to be prepared for the group performance class. The performance class is just one part of the overall string camp experience, many students may be performing more advanced literature in their master classes. The purpose of the group performance class is to expand repertoire, create camaraderie and the opportunity to work with the guest artist teachers.

Fee $335.00 ( Includes T-shirt, Monday lunchand dinner, teen activities, BBQ, and 5:00 snacks)

Register for Codes:

V8, Violin Finish Suzuki Book 8 before registering for this level. Linda Case

Prepare and memorize the following pieces for group performance:

1. Suite Op. 71, 2nd & 3rd mvt., by Moszkowski (International)

2. 6 Canonic Sonatas by Telemann (International)

Learn Sonata #2, all movements

Call Karen for parts for both pieces ASAP- 801-292-9728

V9, Violin For students currently 8th grade and below who have learned at least 2 major concertos and been out of Suzuki Book 8 for two years. Tom Wermuth

Prepare and memorize the following pieces for group performance:

1. Suite Italienne by Stravinsky (Boosey & Hawkes)

Learn Gavotte and 2 Variations

2. Selections from Porgy and Bess by Gershwin (Chappall & Co.)

Learn "It Ain't Necessarily So"

V10, Violin For high school students who have learned at least 2 major concertos and been out of Suzuki Book 8 for at least 2 years. Tom Wermuth

Prepare and memorize the following pieces for group performance:

1. Largo by Veracini (Mailed out)

2. The Earl King by Schubert/Ernst/Wermuth (Mailed out)

Q5, Viola Student should be Suzuki Book 6 or above. Dee Martz

Prepare and memorize the following pieces for group performance:

1. Allegro Spiritoso by Senaille (International)

2. Bartok Duos, Vol. 2 (Boosey & Hawkes)

Learn #35 and #43

C5, Cello Students should be Suzuki Book 7 or above. Beth Cantrell

This is an ensemble and technique class. Prepare and memorize the following pieces for group performance:

1. Allegro Appassionato by Saint-Saens (Suzuki Bk. 7)

2. Song Without Words, Op. 109, by Mendelssohn (Peters Edition)

3. Divertimento by Haydn-Piatigorsky (pub. by Elkan-Vogel Ed.- Theodore Presser)

Bk. 7 & 8 learn 1st & 2nd mvt. Bk. 9 & 10 learn all mtvs.

4. Etude #27 by Popper (International Edition)

Bowings will be mailed for pieces 2, 3, and 4.

B3, Bass Students should be at least Junior High age and advanced Bass students.

Music will be mailed out.

Teen Dorm

Local teens can have the fun of an away experience by participation in the teen dorm. We will again be offering housing at the beautiful Residence Inn with beautifully furnished kitchenette rooms, breakfast, large pool and hot tub, TV/HBO, and sports courts. You will be there right along with our Institute Faculty.

There are nightly activities planned throughout the week including a Pizza/Video Party, Bowling, and Swimming Relays. The Teen Dorm will also have an exclusive meeting to share experiences with our guest artists, James Stern and Audrey Andrist.

Our Teen Dorm Chaperones, Laura Albers and Natalie Stirling, will be staying with the Teens and hosting all of the activities. They will be available during Institute, but because each student has a different schedule, the teens will be responsible for maintaining their own schedules and attending classes. Only very responsible teens should enroll. Teens will be meeting daily for lunch with the chaperones.

FEE: $175.00 (5 nights) $190.00 (6 nights) _ Includes housing, meals, transportation to classes, and all activities. Meals include breakfasts at Residence Inn (Mon/Tue _ Sat), lunch tickets (Tue-Fri), evening meals (Mon-Fri). Advanced String Camp Students who come to the dorm on Sunday evening will have breakfast provided on Monday and attend the Advanced String Camp luncheon that day.
