(Mar 8) Since time is short we have a smaller list of bills we are watching. We are in the last week, and things move and change rapidly this week so the real action is about to begin.
HB122 Grama Bill (Aagard) Circled on 3rd reading. We still want to stop this bill - it is not enough openness. Alice has written Senators and we will just watch this week.
Voter Bills
SB69 1st Sub Voter ID at the polls.
SB 369 Proof of citizenship
SB164 In person voter registration
HB 1261st sub Off site registration
We are watching these closely!!
Alice has written an excellent piece on SB69 1sub and I will have a draft written to send out if this is needed. It is circled on second reading in the Senate. If it comes out we will send info to Senators advising a vote against it.
HB440 Nuclear Power generation (Seegmiller)
SB 42 McCoy same topic
These are both in rules and Alice is sending a letter asking these to be put on the Master Study Agenda. They will be looked at during interim and our goal is to have public discussion on this topics.
HB379 Environmental litigation
We want to see this bill fail. Ann O’Connell is watching closely and will advise
On one final note: Our Legislature Wrap up at the end of session is on Thursday March 19 from 5 to 7 at the Girl Scout Headquarters (445 East 4500 South). There will be a Republican and Democrat Legislator and our own Sandy Peck with a run down on bills the LWV has been involved with. We invite you to come to hear the final report. We hope to have a list of bills we are HAPPY about and a list of SAD bills we are not so content with. It helps in Utah if we can put the whole session in perspective and celebrate the results!!
