CLOTHING LIST FOR THE ALSEK/TATSHENSHINI

·RAINCOAT & RAINPANTS (I've had good luck with goretex, but many guides prefer the cheaper heavy duty coated rainwear like Helly Hansen brand)

·NEOPRENE SOCKS (these are great to wear inside rubber boots)

·THICK CANVAS SHIRT

·2 PAIR SILK (OR POLYPRO) "LONG-JOHNS" UNDERWEAR

·2 PAIR POLYPRO PILE PANTS

·2 LIGHTWEIGHT NYLON PANTS (Patagonia "baggies" are good; these dry quickly and can be layered with silk underwear for warmth)

·2 PAIR WOOL OR SYNTHETIC SOCKS

·1 PAIR JEANS (Carhartt brand work jeans are great!)

·3 CAPILENE LONG-SLEEVED CREWNECK OR ZIP T-NECK TOPS

·LONG-SLEEVE LIGHTWEIGHT SHIRT

·LONG-SLEEVE WOOL SHIRT

·NEOPRENE GLOVES

·HEADBAND, EARMUFFS, OR WOOL CAP

·NECK GAITER (skiing-type)

·HAT (Wide brim goretex rain hat is good; I also bring a baseball cap or visor to wear under my parka hood)

·KNEE-HIGH RUBBER IRRIGATION BOOTS (these are a must for wearing on the river!)

·HIKING BOOTS OR BEEFY TENNIS SHOES

·T-SHIRT AND SHORTS (OPTIONAL)

·2 PILE TOPS, ONE LIGHTWEIGHT PULLOVER, AND ONE HEAVIER SWEATER/JACKET

This is a list of what I bring on a typical 10 day Alaska trip. Emphasize sythentic, quick-drying materials such as polyester fleece and nylon!

OPTIONAL: a good book, a trip journal, a deck of cards, and a travel chess game for rainy days!
