July 16th 'Last Fling'

Saturday, July 16, 2005 “Last Fling”

"Today we visited the Kanesville Tabernacle (where Brigham Young was sustained the president of the Church, and the departure point of the Mormon Battalion) and then the Winter's Quarters visitor center across from theTemple and the old pioneer cemetery. They were wonderful.

Lewis Neeley was here those many years ago; charged with building housing for the saints.

Kanesville Tabernacle and statues of the First Presidency, a pioneer handcart memorial, a prospective pioneer test his loaded handcart, and the Winter's Quarter's Temple.

This is our last full day on the road. Tomorrow we will jump on the road early in order to terrorize yet another unsuspecting ward for sacrament meeting (in Laramie ) and then high-tail it for home. No more tales, no more pictures . . . I'm sure you are all relieved ;-)

Right now we are in Ogalla Nebraska . The boys are down at the pool and Barb is watching some drama on TNT. We ate at Arby's today at the vehement insistence of the boys . . . will we all survive? . . . Time will tell. On the way here we crossed the Platt river many times . . . the path of the pioneers . . . I told the family that there are many unmarked graves out there . . . I don't think they heard me.

Signing off,

Steve, Barb, Nick, and James

Some other trip pictures.  The boys help lay a wreath at George Washington's Tomb, his beloved residence at Mt. Vernon, Boyds Bears (near Gettysburg), and The Washington Temple.

 The End.
