Sunday, June 19, 2005 “Devil's Tower and Mount Rushmore

"Hi To Everyone,

We left Rawlins behind and made our way to Devil’s tower and then on to Keystone and Mt. Rushmore.  Along the way we ate at ‘dead lobster’ (Red Lobster) where James had his first lobster – he liked it, but it was messy!

Started the day with the Rapid City 2nd ward for sacrament meeting (would have never found it without the GPS).

Afterwards we backtracked to see Mt. Rushmore again and then visited Custer State Park on the way to Wind Cave (where we ended up 200 feet below ground).  Made our way back to Keystone ta’other way and swung by Crazy Horse Memorial (just saw it from the highway).

Pretty country. Lots of tourist traps (which we avoided . . . we think). Some in the party didn’t like the long ride through Custer State Park, but others thought it was pretty cool. Bet you can’t guess who liked and who didn’t :-).

The Cave was ‘wicked!’ though and Mt. Rushmore at night (and again by day) was very nice. We bought some really expensive ice cream cones there. Well, that’s something. And there was this ‘Graft Shop’ . . . which some members of the party couldn’t resist and other members avoided ‘like the plague’.

Tomorrow is the grueling trip to the biggest Mall in America . . . I guess no life is complete (this is what I’m told) without seeing a really, really, really big mall, but then again . . . "

NEXT:  On to the next message of the trip . . .
