Long Canyon . . .

Long Canyon

The lower end of Long Canyon, with the Henry Mountains in the distance

Jon and Pat act as human yard sticks to measure the grand expanse before us. They stand on the edge of a pretty steep drop-off and I worry a little. "Dad, we can't let people come here! They'll ruin it", they shout. A few minutes later, Dad and I, back at the Jeep, hear a thundering crash and spy a mushroom cloud of dust rising from the canyon to the accompaniment of wild war whoops. The two younger members of our party have toppled a teetering boulder over the rim and down the steep slope creating an avalanche of dust and rocks. Well there you have it: QED. Yup, I think they're right: We shouldn't let any anyone come here that is under 21! Especially them! ;-)
