Neither Mr. or Mrs. Whitnah were known by
their first names. Mr. Whitnah went by "A.R."
or simply "R." Mrs. Whitnah was
known as "F. Alice" or "Alice."
It is said that Alice didn't like her first
name, as she was named after a horse the
family had.
In 1915 AR Whitnah was living in Iowa, having moved there 9 months previous. AR is listed as a Methodist.
See the following documents on A.R. and F.
Alice Taylor:
A. R. Whitnah and F. Alice Taylor are the
parents of the following children:
- Raymond Taylor Whitnah
- Verne D. Whitnah
- F. Rna Whitnah. All agree that F. is an initial only and
does not stand for any given name, although
it likely came from his mother who often
went by F. Alice. Two stories exist about
the origin of the name "Rna." Both
agree that the R comes from his father. Those
closest to Rna say the "na" comes
from the "nah" in Whitnah. A more
distant relative claims "n" is
for "and" while "a" is
for "Alice." Either way, Rna is
as unique a name as can be found in the Whitnah
clan.
