From 1824 to 1839, there is a symbol or abbreviation following Henry's name. This might stand for "heirs" or possibly "widow."
Is it possible that Henry's wife, Margaret, was living until 1839, after which time the property began to be listed under John's name?


Notes:

  1. Henry's daughter Rebecca married Nicholas Strayer. I just happened to run across his name in this tax list for this year. He possibly appears in earlier years, but I did not check. In addition, Henry's daughter Sarah married Robert Campbell, who should also be in the tax lists.
