Oakland Tribune, July 13, 1917
Affirming belief in the value of the Woman's Protective Bureau, headed by Mrs. Beatrice McCall Whitnah, members of the Social Workers' Club of this country set in circulation yesterday at a luncheon a petition to the city council asking that their committee be given a hearing with regard to this matter.
The club meeting at Hotel Harrison wishes the council not to abolish the bureau. It was also decided that a letter be sent to the board of directors of the Municipal Wood Yard expressing a similar belief in this institution, and opposing the suggested closing down of the yard even temporarily.
Mrs. Helen Swatt Arteda presided at the conference.
