Subject: Assistance Needed from You
Hello,  

Thanks for the concern on order. The order would be shipped to me 
before Xmas. Actually, they would be picking it up this week.I just 
received an email from my shipper in United Kingdom regarding my order 
to be pickup at your location but i was informed that they are having 
issues with the company bank account at this time. The total cost of my 
order is quite correct and okay by me and I'm ready to pay the bills.I 
shall inform my freight forwarder who will be coming to pick up the 
order to hold on and come immediately you inform me that the items are 
ready for pickup then i can give you a call on that day to get the items
 packed for pickup and they will call you on their arrival at your 
address.Also I want you to help me Charge another USD $830.00 from my 
card for the freight forwarder who will be coming to pick up my ordered 
items from you.

The USD $830.00 that will be sent to the freight 
forwarder is for the shipping of my order and other items i ordered from
 you and other countries which is to be picked up by him and should be 
deducted from my credit card.Also, I'm compensating you with the sum of 
USD $150.00 for the transfer fee and for your efforts. Please note that i
 should have given the shipper my credit card for him to deduct the 
freight charges but he told me that he doesn't have the facilities to 
charge credit card, so that's the reason am asking for the urgent favor 
from so that he can pickup my package as soon as the payment is made and
 approve by you and i bring my vote of confidence in you and i want you 
to assist me in this measure.So i want you to transfer the funds to him 
after you have make the charges and the money charged from my credit 
card is in your account,then you can now make the transfer to the agent 
via western union or you can send them a check if possible.I would have 
love to do this myself but there are no western union here around me cos
 i am out of town to monitor my new store under construction at a remote
 village in Howe Island.

This is the charges to be made on my credit card:
 Order Fee: USD $1546.20 Agent fee: USD $  830.00 Transfer Fee with shipping 
fare  : USD $ 150.00
 Total: USD $2526.20
Note that my credit card 
will be charged for the amounts above.Please do get back to me if you 
are in the office right now so that i can forward my credit card details
 to you, then you can charge the funds.

The above is the actual scammer email received. It has been scrubbed of recipient information.
If you received an email like this you have several choices.

Ignore the scammer. Do not respond to emails. Just delete them.
Respond, but only to lead the scammer on--to get a counterfeit check, to report stolen credit card numbers, and to waste the scammer's time. Time spent trying to scam you is time not spent scamming someone else.
Report the scammer to us and we'll post their emails so others will know about that scammer.

Whichever option you choose make sure you do the following:

DO NOT educate the scammer in any way. Educating a scammer makes them better at scamming the next person.
DO NOT let the scammer know that YOU KNOW they are a scammer. The scammer will always be nice to you if they think there's a chance they may still be able to scam you. If they know they've been discovered they will often threaten you. Their threats are empty, but are scary to some people.
DO NOT give the scammer any personal information that they cannot find in a phone book (name, address, and phone.) Feel free to give them lots of incorrect information.
