1. Use a desoldering braid. This does the least damage to components, but
takes a little more time and costs money, because it cannot be reused. This
is the preferred method for circuit boards because it does not damage traces
and pass-throughs.
2. Use a solder vac or solder sucker. This device uses suction to remove
solder. This works quickly and effectively, but must be used carefully
around circuit boards because it may lift and remove traces.
3. Solder can also be removed by tapping the item on a hard surface while the
solder is molten. This works well for many items, but not for sensitive
items.
