Sometimes the specifications published for a machine for rubber rings sizes
are not correct. You can tell if your rubber rings are the right size by
noting that normally the ring will go 2/3 to 3/4 of the way without
stretching. If the ring bows when installed, it is too loose. If it
becomes perceptively thinner it is too tight. A small ring will usually be
okay if it is a little loose. A large ring will not work if too loose. A
fast ball will slip behind a large ring that is too loose. A ring that is
too tight will lose its bounce prematurely, and it will start to pull out
the playfield posts.
