Brand new gas plasma displays, used on early Bally solid state machines,
need a burn in period of a week or two using the high voltage of 190VDC to
establish stable long-term operation. After the burn in period the voltage
can be turned down all the way and then cranked up until any flicker is
gone. This may be as low as 150-165VDC. The lower voltage will prolong
displays. Attempting to break in a display at a low voltage may cause the
display to fail within a week or two.
