I tried rubber tubing to plastic and cardboard washers to get the
xylophone sound but to no avail. I finally found something that works,
is easy to find and cheap too. First cut two (or 4) 1 and 1/2 inch
squares off 3M pad. put holes in the middle and slide one (or 2) down
each post the tone bar goes on. Then put on the tone bar. Then put
retaining bar on top of that and slide the retaining pin through the
posts. The final step is to use an elastic hair tie, and loop it under
the retaining bar but above the tone bar. Lift the tone bar upwards so
that it does not touch the elastic hair tie. The result is a nice tone
when struck.
