An amateur cabinet paint job is easily detected and devalues the machine
usually because the basecoat is done incorrectly. Select the proper colors
by checking behind one of the legs for the original, unfaded colors. Note
also the type and color of the applique--which is usually either speckle or
web. Note that some machines as early as the mid-1970s have no applique.
After proper preparation of the wood, apply primer/sealer and then the
basecoat color. Once the basecoat color is done, then apply the
speckle or web finish. Last apply the stencils. Amateurs usually forget
the speckle or web application and if they do it they do it after the
stencils.
The web applique is available in a spray can from several suppliers. The
speckle applique is usually done by hand using a toothbrush and your
thumbnail.
