You can easily brighten your dim, worn out Gottlieb System 1 or System 80
displays by attaching 10-12VDC (for 6-digit displays) or 6-8VDC (for 4-digit
displays) to the left-most pin of the display, and attach the ground to the
right-most pin of the display. Leave the power on for 7-12 seconds. During
this time vertical lines will become red and become warm. The lines should
not be white. If they are white you're running too much voltage through
it. That's it. Your display is now ready to glow brightly.
After a year or so the display may go dim again, but you can do the same
trick and it will come back. Eventually it may not come back, but even so,
with a display you would otherwise throw away, what can you lose?
