Electromechanical stepping wiper units usually are sticky because they are
dirty, but sometimes the real problem is that someone bent all the wiper
fingers to put too much pressure on the contacts. With all the
fingers that most units have, this creates a tremendous amount of friction
that must be overcome. Proper lubrication with coin-op lube helps, but may
not overcome the pressure. Check the pressure of each finger. If it has
much more than is required to provide only a little contact pressure, loosen
it up using a contact adjustment tool. You'll have to play with this a few
times to figure out how much pressure is too much.
