If coils are burnt, they can be revived if not to badly damaged. They
should measure 3-5 ohms; less than 2 and the coil is bad or the diode across
the coil is shorted. Loosen the coil, set carefully in a vice, and use a
electric drill to bore the burn sleeve out. To make smooth, use sandpaper
around a stick or drill to polish the inside. Measure to make sure the wire
isn't shortened. If the sleeve is too damaged, renew it, or try to go
without.
