Some people want to hold the settings on their games but have a leaky
battery. DON'T (as I have seen suggested) leave the power on while replacing
the battery to hold settings! You can blow the MPU board by using a
soldering iron on a powered up machine! Not to mention it's just plain
dangerous. If you want to save your settings, you can use a set of jumpers
to hold the new battery (charged) to a pair of clipped off resistor leads
tack soldered to the board. The voltage needed is very low. You can even use
a couple of "alligator clip jumpers" and a "AA" battery during the
transition. This will hold power to the board while you solder a new battery
in place with the power OFF.
