Even though playfield posts are inexpensive to replace, true originals can
be hard to come by, this is by far the easiest most effective way I have
found for cleaning them up:
Place a handful of posts into an old athletic tube sock. Dip the end of the
sock in water to wet the posts. Stretch the open end of the sock over a can
of Ajax or similar gritty cleanser. Give the can a good shaking until the
posts are coated. Remove can and tie a knot in the sock securing the posts
in the bottom of the sock. Toss it in the clothes washer on hot and let it
rip.
This worked wonders on posts I had that were sticky with old soda.
