the MAC Client for the first time.....(How annoying)When You Double Click The Palace Client application icon
for the first time...
A large variety Of things will then happen
- If you are not already connected to the Net it will try to connect you.
- it MAY try to connect you to a NON EXISTENT Server
- You may end up at the NEW welcome.thepalace.com (which is a good thing)
- your lil watch cursor will spin for a while & Nothing will happen till you get a dialogue box
- if you didn't drag the palace presents Plug in out of your plugins start up folder to disable it, it will load & do nothing
- You will stare at the LAME splash screen wondering why you bothered doing this at all.
OK SO What the Heck is going on? And how Do you fix this Mess so you can use this?
and Frankly Why Bother?Communities.com, the Parent of thePalace simply no longer exists. It used to Control thepalace.com domain

The NEW thepalace.com domain was purchased and is operated for free by dedicated usersHowever,... we are stuck with using the "legal" outdated installers & software.
While we can't legally hack up this softwares installer and distribute it ...
.....we can tell you how to tweak it so you can Enjoy it & use itStart up the Palace software and FIX the prefs
start the palace software again it will try to connect ...- You may Automatically pop into welcome.thepalace.com
If you dont: let your Cursor spin & then click out of the "palace server could not be found" dialogue box (pictured above)
with the Palace Software running go to your EDIT Menu & choose "Preferences"
the following box will come up
Now, where it says "Home Palace:" Put in the palace address of the palace server you wish to enter as your starting point ...
the First address you might want to put in there is welcome.thepalace.com
it is a portal to many other palaces, from here you can decide where you would like to go.
There is a practice palace all set up for you to visit as a first time newbie I suggest you enter
practice.thepalace.com into the box . There you can get your feet wet with out being too overwhelmed. so you can quickly learn and join us.If you want to start at XMission you would put in palace.xmission.com to replace the words welcome.thepalace.com
OR
click the radio Button for no connection till you have an idea of where you would like to go...
this option is good if you prefer to start up your net connection
AND THEN decide where to go. Or use a bookmark
The Mac Client Graphics FIX
IMPORTANT
When you connect to a palace server you should automatically download all the needed room art .
Unfortunately the Mac client will try to connect to a outdated nonexistent advertising server before allowing you to get the needed room art.......and you will be left sitting in the dark.....the Advertising server was coded into the Mac client and now that the server is gone...the client will still try and find it ..which causes things not to work correctly.
The Mac system will come to your rescue!!
To download chat rooms Graphics with the MAC Client.
Macs need to add a Hosts file to their system folder/preferences, which circumvents the old ad server.
Do this: Make a text file that is named: Hosts
(or write into the one you've already got in your system/preferences folder )
( you can use the simple text application)paps.thepalace.com A 127.0.0.1
directory.thepalace.com A 207.20.68.5
use yourTABS keyto separate the data like:
paps.thepalace.com[TAB] A[TAB] 127.0.0.1
directory.thepalace.com[TAB] A[TAB] 207.20.68.5and hit return at the end of the line after the numbers
save the file naming it: Hosts in your system/preferences folder
What this does is block the call to the nonexistent ad server and reroutes the nonexistent directory addresses to the new user created directory service.
You need to do this or you will see "Black Nothing" at PalacesOnce you have edited your Hosts file or installed one, you may need to tell your TCP control panel where it is.
(Especially If you are on OS X running Palace in classic )
you will More than likely need to
Open
under the edit menu you will see a user mode option chose it and choose the "advanced button" click OK
you should see this: (os 9.1)
click the Select Hosts File button and navigate to your hard drive/system Folder/preferences ...and chose the file that is named Hosts (the one you just edited or added) close & save the tcp/IP control panel.

Fixing Outdated Book Marks
In the default Palace client folder installed is a text file called: Palace Bookmarks
if you try to access any of the items listed in the bookmarks Menu you will go NOWHERE...
You can type into the text file the places you wish to have as bookmarks IF
you remember to separate each item with a TAB and hit return at the end of the lines.
Don't make a mistake or your client will not open it at all! SO...IF you are editing your bookmarks file
copy and rename a working backup version so you will have a back up if you make a mistake while editingOn start up, the client will look for any file named Palace Bookmarks that is inside the folder with the Palace applicationFor convenience download and replace your default outdated Palace bookmarks file with one that contains XMissions Recommended Palace websites & Palaces
or edit ours to suit your needs
Once you Have installed the Palace Client You will Need a registration code to unlock the custom avatar and Custom name features among others.
BE OUR GUEST
The palace client Software will still work with out a code! But you will take the name "Guest" and be limited to the Default avatars. We Love GUESTS!
Many Servers Have the ability to extend Full prividledges to Guests
without a Code. Some do Not. Visit as a Guest and if you want more features get a Code.Get a Free Unique Registration Code
