Henry and Mattie (Samantha) Whitnah lived in Lewistown, Illinois. The 1880 Census shows that Henry owned a billiard hall in Lewistown.

Henry apparently had some health or mental problems in later years. In 1916, the will of his father, Joseph Chester, appoints Henry's daughter (Birdie Campbell) as Trustee of Henry's inheritance, to "be expended by my grandaughter for my son Henry C. Whitnah or paid to him as she deems necessary." Henry and Mattie also lived apart in these latter years, he living with their daughter Bertie Campbell, and she with their daughter Lulu Turner.(6)

Henry and Mattie are the parents of the following children:
  1. Frank Whitnah, born 1865 in Illinois.(7) Frank was listed in the 1880 Census (age 15). He may have died soon after as there are no other records that mention him.
  2. Alberta (Berdie) Whitnah
  3. Lulu Faye Whitnah, born 2 Feb 1877 in Lewistown, Fulton, Illinois. She married Carl G. Turner, and died 15 May 1921 in Peoria Illinois. She was buried on the 18th at the Bushnell Mausoleum, Canton, Fulton, Illinois.(8)
