Joseph VanMeter was born in 1780 in Martinsburg, Virginia(1) to Abraham VanMeter and Elizabeth Burns. On 17 August 1800 he married his cousin Margaret Whitnah(2), daughter of Henry F. Whitenah and Margaret Burns. Joseph drowned in the Ohio river while hunting. His gun was found forty years later.(3) Margaret died in 1865.
Joseph VanMeter and Margaret Whitnah are the parents of the following children:
