Mr. Pinball Tip:

If you turn on your Williams solid state game and a funny number appears in the 1st player display and the machine will not start a game, you likely have battery problems. The machine has come up in bookkeeping mode. To get around this you will need to either replace the batteries on the CPU (3 standard AA batteries) or figure out why the still good batteries are not getting power to the board. Most likely the problem with a bad connection is due to battery corrosion which should be resolved immediately. You may just have to clean the terminals, neutralizing with vinegar, and cleaning with rubbing alcohol. Or, you may have to completely remove the battery holder and replace it.
