He did it!

We all had a big night tonight. After our typical bedtime ritual that begins around 5:00 with cereal, followed by silly time (all the time, these days) and then a bath, bottle and ten minutes of rocking and singing made-up verses of Kumbya, My Lord, Eric put Sammy in his bassinet and we let him go..........to sleep on his own. A PR of 80 straight minutes of Sammy crying and neither me or Eric going to give his paci, rub his adorable little belly or tell him that he is so safe and so loved. He did it! We did it! Who knows if it's the right thing to do? We felt like the Little Man was ready, but of course, 23 minutes into it, I bring up, "Tiffany's baby went for two hours and forty-five minutes." Eric said, "No way Sam will last that long." But, we started to doubt as every five minutes went by (too much time to think, however we enjoyed a nice dinner TOGETHER). I won the prize for rhetorical questions, "Did we do the right thing?" "Are we awful parents?" "How could we have done this?" "Will he hate us in the morning?" But, as I type, after sneaking a peak of him deep, deep in slumber, I realize this is nuthin'. Thank God babies are gradual beings........it makes for survival of the fittest parents.
