Surprise Visitors

April 9, 2004 12:06 PM MST

By Eric

Well, by the time Sammy was 10 days old, everyone in the immediate fam had met him except for Nate.  So we were hopping mad with excitement for the arrival of Nate and his girlfriend Carmen on March 12.  My parents were here earlier in the week, and then my Dad left on a 2-week jaunt through Honduras, so Mom thought it would be nice to stick around and say hi to Nate (and spend a few more days hanging out with Sam no doubt).

Sam meets Nate and Carmen!

When Jen heard about the plan, she wanted to get in on the deal, so we arranged for Jen to pop down from Jackson to surprise Nate and Carm.  Nik, Mom, Sammy and I were all in the joke, and we thought we were very clever.  (We tried explaining it to Sunshine and Sadie, but they were busy with some piece of rope and I don't think they really caught on until Jen walked through the door.)  So Friday night, after Nate and Carm had arrived and we had sat down to dinner, in walks the Jen.  It was a good surprise and Nate and Carm were happy to see her.

Jen was happy to Sam again.

So that was nice, but then...the doorbell rang!  I went to the door expecting to turn away some Mormon missionaries or Sierra Club petitioners, but it was Uncle Mark (my mom's brother) and Aunt Joan!  They had pulled the double surprise (or the double-Jack as we call it in the family).  Jen was the only one in on it.  So Sammy ended up getting six visitors for the price of two.  Not bad at all.  Here are some more shots from the weekend.

Quite an unexpected gathering!

Mark wants to stay in the attic next time.  Sitting room only.

GAJ (Great Aunt Joan)

Of course we had to break out Eric's baby book.

GUM (Great Uncle Mark)

The Sonicare twins.

On Saturday we all took a big field trip to Park City to see the old Main Street . . .

Sam didn't do as much sight-seeing as the rest of us.

Some nummmies at the Wasatch Brewery.

Mmmm....nummmies.

Hello little doggie in the doorway.

. . . and everyone was tuckered out after some good food and a few dark beers.

Nate and Carm didn't think they could get out of here without donating a little elbow grease did they?

Especially after putting so many miles on our electronic Yahtzee game.  Great Shakes it's Yahtzee!
