July 11th

Monday, July 11, 2005 “We walked to Canada . . . eh! It's a jelly!”

"Happy B-day to Uncle Craig yesterday and Trevor today!

Now the news:

Saturday night we hit another Internet challenged hotel – so no message – but to show our protest, we –did- walk to Canada . Yep. Shankes’ Mare. Course it was just across the bridge but we did it. Canadian security asked a few questions (where were you born (a hospital), what are you going to do here (walk around and gawk like a tourist), how long are you going to stay (we’ve stayed too long already ;-) ) and we entered Canada . After enjoying the Falls and attractions there we walked back to the U.S. holding our picture ID close. Did you know that Canada charges you 50 cents duty to walk back to the U.S. across the bridge? Highway robbery! The boys liked it though. They got to go to another country and did change good American money for strange octagonal or at least many sided Canadian muula.

I did hear a really good joke there though. At the IMAX theatre, the announcer said ‘This IMAX movie brought to you by Canadian Technology’. ‘Canadian Technology’? What’s that? I had a good laugh.

So bottom line: we did Niagara Falls today, the Maid of the Mist, the IMAX theater, and Ripley’s believe it or not museum (I believe it NOT, by the way) ;-) but the boys loved it and even Barb liked it – bohemians! Neophytes!).

Click the thumbnail to see us in the mist:

The Falls were spectacular though. The Maid of the Mist boat ride was the best IMHO. The IMAX second, and the Ripley’s museum came in 1,000,756 and ½ place ;-) Who needs a two headed pig and an eight-legged calf anyway, a guy who can put a baseball in his mouth, or a shrunken head . . . hey, wait a minute, a few shrunken heads is exactly what we need at ATK Thiokol . . . a few shrunken head treatments and those REALLY BIG heads would be back to normal again ;-) Hmm . . . the possibilities, the possibilities . . . it makes your head spin . . . which would qualify me to be in a Ripley’s display!

Yesterday we did the cemetery haunting thing – Conneaut, Cherry Valley , Newton Falls , and Ashtabula . Mom found lots of headstones (‘Course what did she expect? We were in a cemetery) How many pictures of headstones can you take? Lots. And Mom’s got the pictures to prove it. We did terrorize the Niagara Falls ward for sacrament meeting though . . . so we felt good having accomplished at least that ;-)

Today is Kirtland, tomorrow is Cedar Point."

Left, Benoni Andrews grave at Cherry Valley Cemetery, and of course, Niagara Falls.
