John worked for a time as a coal miner and was a War veteran, having served in Illinois Company B 101 Illinois Infantry(8).

  4. Fulton County Cemetary Inscriptions. There is some doubt about John's death date. Another J.S. Whitnah died 22 Oct 1920 for which I have not been able to match to a person. A family photo states John died at age 73. However, he died before his wife based on the probate records.
