Park City, Utah – Winder Farms and Arts-Kids, Inc. announced today that the company known as the “farmers market on wheels” will be the Official Sponsor of the Funky 5K Race on Miner’s Day, which will be celebrated in Park City again this Labor Day, Monday, September 6th.
“A partnership between Arts-Kids and Winder Farms makes sense because Winder cares about the health and well-being of the community,” said Mary Anne Neumeister, a member of the Board of Trustees of Arts-Kids. “Running is healthy, Arts-Kids after-school programs are healthy, and being funky is healthy,” she said.
Costumes make the Funky 5K funky. There are prizes for the funkiest costumes, moms or dads with costumed babies in running strollers, and the best “Centipede Team” of five runners in a connected costumed.
The race is run by serious runners, walkers, teens, and families alike. “If racers don’t want to wear a costume they can still win first, second or third place medals in gender and age categories,” said Neumeister, adding that the race will be chip-timed.
Pre-registration is $20 for adults and $10 for youth under 19 at www.arts-kids.org. Registration the day of the race begins at 7:00 a.m. and is $30 for adults and $15 for youth under 19.
Arts-Kids and the Park City Peaks Hotel are offering an overnight discount package which includes lodging, race registrations, and transportation to and from Main Street the night before the race. “Racers can come an stay the Labor Day weekend with a 1 to 3 night package at very affordable rates,” Neumeister said.
The Funky 5K Race is a fundraiser for Arts-Kids, the Park City after-school youth development program using the expressive arts and group techniques to improve life skills like communication, problem-solving, creative thinking and listening. Arts-Kids was founded in 1999 at two schools in Park City, Utah, and has expanded to ten Summit County elementary and middle schools and to the Uintah and Ouray Ute Indian Reservation in Utah.
To maintain accessibility, this education and social service program has always been free of charge to students. Participation in the Funky 5K Race and other fundraisers makes this possible.
“If anyone signs up for the Winder Farms service and uses the promo Code ‘Art-Kids” Winder Farms will also donate $50 to the program,” added Bob Smith.
Winder Farms, formerly known as Winder Dairy, has been providing fresh dairy to the doorsteps of tens of thousands of Utah homes since 1880. The company is no longer just a milkman. In addition to milk, cheese, yogurt, eggs, fresh squeezed juices, and cookie dough, they deliver fresh fruits, vegetables, salads, freshly made pasta, and all-natural bacon and sausage. Winder Farms is now a farmers’ market on wheels, delivering 300 products fresh from the farm.
Winder Farms is a family business with the fifth and sixth generation of Winders still involved in the ownership and operation of the door-to-door fresh produce delivery concept.
Park City’s mining population re-christened Labor Day as Miner’s Day in the late 1800s when most men worked in the silver mines deep under today’s ski runs. Labor Day features the Miner’s Day Parade, the annual “Running of the Balls” down Main Street, the mucking & drilling contest in City Park, and the popular Funky 5K Race at 8:30 am.
