Glacier Trekking in the Alps
Trekking on the biggest Glacier in Europe
Glacier Hikers on the
Grünhornlückke |
This is a great family activity in one of the most
spectacular areas in Europe. This hike down the Aletschgletscher,
Europe’s largest glacier, is situated in an area that is one
of UNESCO’s Greatest Natural Wonders of the World. You take a famously
scenic train ride from Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen up to the highest
train station in Europe, the Jungfraujoch, at 3454 m or 11333 ft. Then
you enjoy a leisurely hike down the glacier safely on a rope, under
the care of an excellent guide. Overnight we stay in one of the many
luxury Swiss alpine huts, where you enjoy a hearty Swiss meal served
by the hut keeper and his family while you watch the sun set over the
Alps. The next morning we hike down to a Swiss village called Fiesch,
where we take the train back to Interlaken. This 2-day glacier hike
requires no skills other than being able to walk for 5 hours a day in
mountain/hiking boots. This is the perfect activity for families or
friends to round out a Swiss vacation.
