In 1799 they moved to Irwin, Westmoreland County,(5) and later moved to Saltsburg in Indiana County.(6) Like his father, John was a farmer.(7)
On 17 Jun 1824, John married Elizabeth Walthour.(8) The Walthours were prominent members of Westmoreland County and played a role in the settling and taming of western Pennsylvania. After their marriage, the Daugherty's moved between Westmoreland and Indiana Counties, living in Saltsburg, Indiana County; North Huntington, Westmoreland County; and Montgomery Township, Indiana County.(9)
Elizabeth passed away first in 1851.(10) John passed away three years later May 30, 1854(11) at the age of 53. His passing left seven children under the age of 18. Because he had no will,(12) guardianship of his children and his estate passed to the courts.(13) John is buried in the East Mahoning Baptist Church Cemetary in Indiana County.(14)
