Grover
Grover, Utah
Foot of the mountains
The tiny community of Grover lies seven miles southeast of Torrey, the gateway to Capitol Reef National Park. The town was originally settled in 1880, and was named for President Grover Cleveland, who was in office when the town was incorporated and assigned a post office (which was later replaced with rural delivery service). The town was once given the unflattering nickname of Carcass Creek because of the dead animals that had contaminated the local drinking water. Today this rural farming community is home to the Hale Family Summer Theatre, seasonally operated by the daughters of respected theater greats, Nathan and Ruth Hale. Grover’s elevation is 7,048 feet.
