Ranching and Farming
The quaint rural community of Lyman (population 230) is nestled at the foot of Thousand Lake Mountain, at an elevation of 7,300 feet. The small ranching and farming community, located just three miles east of Loa, was originally settled in 1876 as Wilmouth. The town was relocated and renamed in 1893 to honor LDS apostle Francis Lyman, who eventually succeeded Brigham Young Jr. as President of the Quorum of Twelve. Lyman has the shortest growing season in Wayne County. Visitors to the area enjoy fishing and hunting at Horse Valley and Neff’s Reservoir.
