Photographs from Bolivia, South America, September 2015 __________________________________________________________________________________________________
My older photographs from South America are from Bolivia. My husband and I visited the Cordillera Real mountains in September 2015 for our annuall mountaineering trip to high mountains. Our peruvian friend/mountain climber - Juan - joined us for the adventure, this time in Bolivia. We had planned to climb three high mountains, but the weather conditions and not enough acclimatization in the high terrain forced us to change our plans slightly.
Regardless, we were able to summit Huayna Potosi, 6,088m high mountain, one of the most beautiful and most scenic in Bolivia. We reached the summit during the snow storm, which added difficulties to the climb. We were not able to see much from the peak, we were covered by clouds, but the satisfaction was still very big. It was our highetst mountain yet and we were going to celebrate that in La Paz.
The second week, we were going to spend in Illimani - the second highest mountain in Bolivia. Unfortunately, the heavy snow storm in previous days caused several avalanches to fell and we were not able to reach the high camp nor the summit - it was closed due to dangerous conditions. We spent a few days in the Illimani willderness doing day hikes on the moutain. It still was beautiful!
I was able to make a few photographs of the beautiful bolivian landscape, but light conditions did not always cooperate. Maybe next time, when we return to Bolivia to climb Illimani and Pequeno Alpamayo, we will have better luck with climbs and with photos.
