Summer 2011 and 2012 - Prince William Sound, Wrangell-St.Elias N.P., Kenai Peninsula and Gates of the Arctic ___________________________________________________________________________________________________
Visit Alaska II - photographs taken in Nothern Alaska in Winter, February 2013.
Photographs on this page are from two trips to Alaska - in August 2011 and July 2012. Most of the days were very rainy and foggy, but it still was an amazing experience. Alaska is all about rain and it's good to be prepared.
In 2011, we visited Prince William Sound for several days where we did sea kayaking. This area is surrouned by beautiful mountains and glaciers. We experienced very relaxing times in the bay and enjoyed peaceful atmosphere accompanied by hundred's of birds and wildlife. It was challenging at times, but very rewarding.
The biggest part of this trip was a week long trek in Wrangell-St.Elias Mountains. My expectations from these mountais were very high. I waned to explore on my feet as much as possible and photograph all the beauties I have seen. We got dropped by the bush plane in the high mountains and were exploring the Iceberg Lake area. Unfortunately, the heavy rains every day and cold winds forced us to change plans. Due to wet conditions (our entire gear got soaked) and illness, we decided to return sooner. Did not have any light for photography. However, I will return for the light to these beautiful mountains, one day.
After returning from the mountains, we drove to Kenai Peninsula and spent last few days in the rain forest, getting wet once again. Had a chance to see several bears and was amazed by the green and healthy forests everywhere. It was a pleasure to explore that part of Alaska.
In summer of 2012, we visited Alaska again, this time the northern part, above the Arctic Circle - Gates of the Arctic National Park. My husband and I were hiking to the Arrigetch Peaks and stayed in the wilderness for a week. It was amazing and the solitude and isolation were incredible! Beautiful nature was surrounding us and we were the only two people in the whole area for 6 days. It took us more than 2 days to reach the mouth of the peaks. Hiking was extremely difficult in wet tundra, followed by heavy bushwhaking. Many mosquitos were sticking to us for the entire trip. Unfortunately, weather did not cooperate much neither. Only first two days were sunny, after that heavy rains with thunderstorms mixed with sunshine, clouds and fog lasted until end of the trip. Rivers were running very high and we were not able to cross them and get to the lakes sitting between the peaks. Once again, Alaska was a little disapointing with weather, but unforgettable as well.
It is a very special and unique land. Everything is difficult in Alaska, but that does not stop us from wanting to explore it more. It's beautiful and amazing. It's Alaska.
Thank you for viewing my site. Enjoy my photographs from Alaska.
